Cellulite, also known as orange peel, is a problem faced by a significant number of women regardless of age or weight. One of its causes is improper diet. What kind of foods promote the formation of cellulite?

Cellulite – what is it?

Cellulite is defined as wrinkled, lumpy, fibrous skin. It can occur on the thighs, abdomen, breasts and arms. Visible under the skin lumps are fat cells, which, as a result of enlargement, begin to press the adjacent blood and lymphatic vessels. This contributes to the deterioration of circulation and metabolism in the cells.

We can have to deal with several stages of orange peel. Initially, cellulite is not strongly visible. When the skin is squeezed with the fingers, it becomes slightly lumpy. In the second stage of cellulite, we have to deal with skin that looks like orange peel and is slightly painful to the touch. Cellulite in the third stage is visible without having to squeeze the skin. It can be recognized by large lumps and unevenly undulating skin. The fourth stage of cellulite, on the other hand, is characterized by lumps that are easily palpable and very painful to the touch.

Types of cellulite

There are several types of cellulite. The most common is fatty cellulite. Its formation, as the name suggests, is associated with an excess of fat cells. They can be formed, for example, as a result of sudden weight gain. We are dealing here with unevenly distributed, enlarged lipids that form lumps. This type of cellulite is painful to touch. To get rid of it, you need to take care of regular physical activity and a healthy diet devoid of highly processed, fatty foods.

The second type is water cellulite. Its formation is associated with impaired blood and lymph circulation. It is often faced by people who are sedentary or standing at work. As a result, there is a retention of water and toxins in tissues, resulting in excessive growth of lipids. Water cellulite is a popular problem among slim women.

The last type of cellulite is circulatory. It is a combination of the two types mentioned above. This type of orange peel is caused by a simultaneous increase in lipids and accumulation of water and toxins. It is often associated with sudden weight gain.

Foods that contribute to the development of cellulite

What kind of products should be avoided by people who want to avoid unsightly orange peel? These include, among others, saturated animal fats. A good alternative to them can be, among others, olive oil. Salt consumed in excess can be equally harmful. It contributes to water retention in the body, and in extreme cases – to the formation of swelling. A diet high in salt leads to a significant slowdown in metabolism and weight gain. It can be harmful both in its pure form and in highly processed products. The condition of our skin is also not favored by coffee. After drinking it we have to deal with an increase in the concentration of cortisol in the blood. This hormone is responsible for water retention in the body, contributing to the formation of swelling. Cellulite can also be formed by consuming other products containing caffeine, such as tea, coca-cola, or all kinds of energy drinks. It is impossible not to mention sugar. It can be found in sweets, fruits and sweet drinks, among other things. Simple sugars contribute to the disruption of collagen fibers, resulting in a loss of skin firmness.
